Die mehrj�hrige, krautige Pflanze wird bis 3 Meter gro� und tr�gt bei guter Bew�sserung reichlich s��e, gelbe Früchte, die etwa kirschgro� werden und an Ananas erinnernden Geschmack besitzen. Die reifen Fr�chte der Physalis peruviana werden von ihrem braunen, vertrocknenden Kelchbl�ttern umh�llt. Die anspruchslose Pflanze kann nach einem R�ckschnitt im Herbst im Wintergarten �berwintert werden. Wie alle Physalis Arten ben�tigen diese in ihrer Wachstumsphase reichlich N�hrstoffe.
